tuscan thrift series: kitchen

 hey!

lately, i've noticed a lot of people have been drawn to that 2000s tuscan aesthetic. honestly, it's such a fun style to take on. it reminds me of home and my childhood. though the fashion is amazing, the homes look even better.

although you can find some things that match the aesthetic in retail stores, your best bet will be to look at the thrift. hell, you can literally get pieces from the 2000s! also, decor ends up being way cheaper and sometimes even higher quality.

this is probably gonna end up being a series depending on how motivated i am LOL. starting off with YOUR KITCHEN!!!

for reference, i'm talking about the kitchens that have that cozy, warm, and lived-in feeling. here's a few examples:

staples and what to look for

(psst psst: i'd include more images in this section but blogger is not being very kind to me. maybe i'll go back in and fix this when i know how to)

starting off, there are some STAPLES that were in a ton of homes from that time period. in pretty much anything you buy, you want to look for:

• roosters
• why? honestly, no clue. i do know that many different kitchens from my childhood had them in various forms: clocks, wall art, decorative plates, etc.
• fake fruit. 
• namely, grapes, apples, and pears
• plants! 
• often there are baskets full of fake vines at the tops of cabinets or hard-to-reach places.
• family-centered decor with quotes
• decor centered around wine and coffee
• hmm... i think the grapes tie into this somewhere
• elegance. a lot of money went into homes at that time. 

wall decor

spirals and wiry decor are HUGE staples! these are usually metal, and you'll see designs like these on backs of chairs, wall sconces, wall decor, and possibly even some storage and organization shelves.

there's almost always something like 'em in the larger items sections.

also, a kitchen needs a clock. not just any clock, though-- they need to have character. we aren't talking those basic, modern ones you'd see in the workplace.

 

maybe it'll have a fun design on it. maybe it'll be wooden. hell, maybe it'll have a rooster on it. whatever it has, it should have personality!

tech

and of course, many kitchens had small TVs or media players in them! why not both?

in the used tech section, there will always be an old CD boombox or a small monitor you can put on your counter. you might even find some designed for the kitchen! they might go under cabinets, on the wall, or on your counters. i honestly can't think of anything cozier than baking a sweet treat in the evening with my favorite show on.

lighting

lighting is a HUGE part of making any atmosphere cozy. that starts with your lamps. overhead lights are often too bright. look for lamps, candles, anything. sometimes, you can find candles or candle holders at the thrift.

it's a lot easier to find lamps, though. if they come with bulbs, great! if not, get some new yellow or orange bulbs. it'll level up your space so much.

also, peep the media player under the cabinet! yet another example of tech you could add to your kitchen.

ceramics

ceramics are another huge aspect. these can be on display, for dining, or both! tying into the wine and fruit symbols in this aesthetic, a lot of ceramics you want to look for include grapes, pears, or apples. remember, a lot of decor was also wine and coffee related on top of that!
